The short yearly legislative session ended this past week with the passage of three gun violence prevention bills. The only significant gun control type of bill that failed was HB 227. It would have banned ghost guns. The bills that passed move on the to Governor’s office. He is certain to sign them.

On January 27, the Virginia House of Delegates approved four good gun control type of bills. This is after the bills zoomed through various committees. The legislature persists in building a safer state.

The legislature and Governor Northam passed 18 gun safety bills into law last year. The legislature plans to start the year by considering more gun control type of measures. The House Committee on Public Safety approved HB 2081 which now goes to the full House of Delegates. On January 22, the committee will consider three more bills listed below.
The NRA asked their members to contact their delegate and the committee members to oppose these bills. Delegates need the support of gun violence prevention advocates to help in their decision.
Allowing Sunday hunting fails

Yesterday, the House Agriculture, Chesapeake & Natural Resources Committee rejected the NRA supported bill to allow hunting on Sundays in Virginia. The NRA lost by a vote of 16-6. Peace and quiet on Sunday remains in Virginia.

The NRA claims that Saturday is the only day Virginians can enjoy hunting. Everyone works on weekdays. So this law would eliminate the only day residents can enjoy peace from the noise of guns to relax or hike in the woods: Sunday
