Think you’re safe in elder housing?

Common knowledge tells us that gun violence is an inner-city street problem. Last Sunday morning, January 23, 2022, a man living in an elderly housing situation, handled his gun improperly. He shot himself in the leg.

This negligence occurred in Mansfield Massachusetts. A state with comparatively strict gun laws. Unlike in many states, he needed to possess a gun license. However, the law does not require training. And they don’t require retesting as the gun owner ages.

This presents another question to ask before your relative enters an elder facility. Do you allow residents to have guns?

Child shot in home. Family loses all five children

On Friday, January 12 in Akron Ohio, a mother brought her 2-year-old boy into the hospital. Police were called because the child shot himself in the stomach and was in critical but stable condition.

The police discovered a gun in the home and four other children ranging in age from 6-months-old to 13-years-old. They were unharmed.

The investigation continues as to who pulled the trigger. In the meantime, all five children were turned over to County children services.

Don’t leave guns unlocked. This negligent act could result in the removal of all children from the home.
