Tennessee: Last minute notice of gun bill votes today (3/27)

New Russian Ally

Late last night, the NRA notified their Tennessee gun nut members to quickly urge the House Constitutional Protections and Sentencing Subcommittee to oppose and support several bills. The committee will be meeting today (3/27) to consider these bills. Unlike the NRA, we fight for gun safety and urge concerned citizens to do the opposite of what the NRA requests.

The Bills

👍House Bill 1476 would enact fines for anyone who leaves a gun or ammunition in a car or boat where someone under 18 could get ahold of it.

👎House Bill 409 is a stand-your-ground bill that would allow gunmen to shoot others whenever they feel threatened.

Action

Phone calls are the quickest and most effective means of advocacy. Please call the office of your State Assembly member. Ask for support of HB 1476 and opposition to HB 409.

  • To find your representatives and senators, enter your zip code at The League of Women Voters.
  • From the Indivisible Guide 2.0: Coordinated calls. Calls are a light lift, but can have an impact. Organize your local group to barrage your MoCs [legislators] with calls at an opportune moment about and on a specific issue.
