Ohio: The House considers a bill that lets only gun stores stay open during emergencies

Abolish the NRA Sign

Gun stores think they’re special. They should stay open during any kind of declared emergency. This included pandemics. Gun store patrons can transmit viruses to others just as can happen in any other kind of store.

The Bill

  • SB 150 ties government officials hands preventing them from taking the safety precaution of closing gun stores during an emergency. This includes pandemics.

Gun violence prevention action

Please contact your State Representative. Tell he/she you are against SB 150, a bill that passed the State Senate last week and is now before House committees.  It would prevent gun store closers during emergencies, even though all other stores must close for safety reasons.

Ohio: Committee to consider guns for teachers with little training

On Tuesday, September 1, the Senate Government Oversight and Reform Committee will hear a bill to reduce gun training for teachers and other school employees who carry guns into the school. Once again, the NRA shows no concern for the safety of children exposed the risks of guns.

The Bill:

  • SB 317 allows any school employee who can legally carry a concealed weapon to do so in school. It eliminates the need for additional training beyond the standard 8 hours.

Action

Please call the office of your Ohio State Senator. Urge the Senator to oppose SB 317 which is before the Senate Government Oversight and Reform Committee.  School children should not be at risk of employees with limited training who have guns in the school.
