Here is clear indication of the NRA’s power to frighten legislators into opposing firearm safety bills. Democrats submitted a bill to eliminate preemption in Nevada. Preemption prevents local communities from making their own gun ordinances. Because gun safety concerns are elevated after the killing of 58 people in Las Vegas, most thought gun safety bills would easily pass this year. Then, this week, legislators removed the preemption provision and included the more acceptable “red flag” language.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal wrote, “[HB 291] is getting reworked to eliminate provisions deemed too divisive and politically risky for some lawmakers.” Once more, the NRA scared legislators into believing gun nuts outnumber gun sensible voters, even as all polls indicate otherwise.
👍 AB 291 would create a “red flag” procedure allowing family and authorities to request a judge remove guns from a dangerous person. The bill also includes language banning bump stocks.
