Nebraska: Two gun control bills fail
Last week, the Judiciary Committee voted against two-gun violence prevention bills. Apparently, the committee considered the pressure of pro-gun fanatics over the safety of individuals.
NRA members attended the committee hearing at the encouragement of the NRA. They called these minimal measures, “extreme.” Gun control advocates just cannot get that same kind of support in Nebraska.
- Legislative Bill 58 would have created a process to file an Extreme Risk Protection order allowing family members to request a judge remove guns from a person who is dangerous to themselves or others. 👍
- Legislative Bill 816 would have required a 48-hour waiting period after a background check before receiving a gun. The bill also sets a fee to purchase a firearm. 👍
No action requested at this time.

Nebraska: Hearing on Friday, Feb 21, on waiting period bill
The Nebraska Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on a bill to impose a waiting period on the purchase of guns. This would allow a cooling off period for those that want to harm others or themselves.
The NRA requested their members attend the hearing at 1:30 PM in Room 1113. Concerned gun violence prevention citizens who cannot attend, should contact the committee chairman and show their support for this bill.
- Legislative Bill 816 requires a 48-hour waiting period after a background check before receiving a gun. The bill also sets a fee to purchase a firearm. 👍
Please call or email the office of the Nebraska Judiciary Committee Chairman, Senator Steve Lathrop firstname.lastname@example.org. Ask that the committee support Legislative Bill 816 to require a waiting period before receiving a purchased gun. The delay can act as a cooling down period for those that purchase a gun in anger or desperation.

Nebraska: ERPO bill before the full legislature
The Nebraska Judiciary Committee passed the Extreme Risk Protection bill. It now goes to the full legislature for a vote any day now. NRA gunners will be contacting their Nebraska legislators to oppose this bill. This is the moment to do the same and ask for support of Legislative Bill 58.
- Legislative Bill 58 would create a process to file an Extreme Risk Protection order allowing family members to request a judge remove guns from a person who is dangerous to themselves or others. 👍
Please call or email the office of your Nebraska State Legislators. Urge him or her to support Legislative Bill 58 which would decrease gun deaths from dangerous people.
