No need for gun license passes into law

February 18, 2021

  • HB 102 passed into law. It eliminates the need for a license to carry a gun. The bill also removes restrictions on where guns can be carried. Republicans don’t care that the only thing saving the U.S. Capitol from an insurrection was that guns are restricted from the D.C. area. 👎dislike

Governor Gianforte signed into law a bill that eliminates the need for anybody to carry loaded guns on their person or in their car. The NRA is fighting for this bill in numerous states because it is inconvenient for gun owners to request a permit. They don’t consider safety or training at all. Just the prospect of selling more guns.

With Republicans in control of the legislature and the Gianforte expected to sign it, there is little hope of stopping this bill.  You’ll still need a driver’s license, dog license, hairdresser license and a fishing license; but not a gun license. No training or criminal check required. The NRA loves the potential to sell more guns.

A flood of calls to Governor Gianforte office urging a veto of HB102 is the only hope. You can find all your representatives at Common Cause.

Montana: Easing of gun restrictions before the full House

  • HB 102 eliminates the need for a license to carry a gun. 👎Dislike

The NRA is pushing an important bill for them in Montana. The bill eliminates the need for any requirement to obtain a gun license. Your dog needs a license and your hair dresser needs a license, but not a gun owner. The Federal Government still can do a background check when obtaining a gun at a gun store. After that, guns can be passed around to criminals with no restrictions.

The bill also removes restrictions on where guns can be carried. Republicans don’t care that the only thing saving the U.S. Capitol from an insurrection was that guns are restricted from the D.C. area.

The bill is currently before the Montana full House of Representative. Now is the time to call your State Representative and voice opposition to HB 102. You can find your representatives at Common Cause.
