Only one gun bill made any progress in legislative committees this year. No gun safety bills were considered as the legislature is dominated by Republicans.
Here is an description of the one bill that passed. Last year, the Mississippi legislature passed a bill that allowed gun license holders to bring their loaded guns into many areas of courtrooms. Gun nuts did not like being prevented from having guns in certain areas. So, the NRA is pushed a bill to cut it back to only a very few areas where loaded guns are not allowed. It is hard to imagine the distraction to a judge seeing large loaded guns in the hands of spectators.
The Bill
👎House Bill 1581 defines only a few locations in a courthouse where guns are not be allowed. This includes the judge’s chamber and jury rooms.
