Massachusetts: Hearing Tuesday (12/10) on gun safety bill

Please consider attending a hearing at the Massachusetts State House Tuesday, December 10, at 1:00 PM. This is regarding a gun safety bill to develop guidelines for Doctors to be required to ask patients if guns are present in the house. If guns are present, Doctors would talk to their patient about gun safety measures.

Since gun sales might drop, the NRA opposes this bill. This weekend, the NRA, showing their disregard for childhood gun deaths and alerted their members to attend the hearing to oppose the bill.

To most, it is obvious that parents should locked up all firearms well away from children. There are some who neglect to think of the risks of guns being near their children. A few words to these parents by their Doctor will save lives.

Many NRA members will show a presence at this State House hearing on Tuesday. Advocates for gun violence prevention can offset the NRA’s visibility with their own presence.

The Bill

  • House Bill 2005 would establish a program requiring health professionals to ask if guns are in the home. If they are, counsel them with a few words on firearm safety.

Please consider attending the hearing by the Joint Committee on Public Health:

December 10th, 2019, from 1:00PM-5:00PM
Hearing Room A-2
24 Beacon St.

Massachusetts: Gun violence prevention advocacy today (11/12)

Last night (11/11), The message below was broadcast out by the Massachusetts Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence and Stop Handgun Violence. Now is a chance to make a difference. Please send an email or make a call today.

Crime Gun Bill Call-in day
Tuesday, November 12th, 2019

Let’s light up those phones and keep the Coalition’s priority bill on the legislature’s radar screen!

Please call your own state legislators on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 to ask them to support H.2045/S.1388 An Act Relative to Crime Gun Data Reporting and Analysis.

This bill will require a detailed analysis of MA crime gun trace data to better understand the origins of crime guns. We need the Committee on Public Safety to vote this bill out of committee favorably before the February 5, 2020 deadline.

Will you take five minutes to make two phone calls on November 12th—one to your state representative and one to your state senator (NOT Warren and Markey!)

My name is _________. My address is _________. I am calling to ask (Rep ____ to contact Chairman Naughton OR Senator _______ to contact Chairman Moore) of the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security to vote H.2045/S.1388 An Act Relative To Crime Gun Data Reporting and Analysis out of committee favorably so we can bring the bill to the floor for a vote. People are dying from crime guns, 50% of which come from within MA. We need to know the source of these crime guns so we know how to stop them getting to our streets. Thank you.

If you are unsure of who your legislators are, you can find them here

Chances are you will speak with a staffer who will ask your name, address and what bill you’re calling about. These calls generally take under 2 minutes but can make a huge impact! Let’s make sure our elected officials don’t just hear from the NRA!

Thank you for helping us mobilize, advocate, and save lives in MA!!
