This bill passed the legislature and is now before Governor Mills for final signature. The NRA asked their members to contact the Governor’s office. Gun child safety supporters need to contact the Governor’s office to support her in resisting pressure to sign this bill. Ask for her not to veto LD 759. - LD 805, to receive a full House and full Senate vote soon. It creates a gun free zone around polling places. Anyone displaying guns around polling places intends to intimate wary voters into not voting. 👍 like
- LD 884, to receive a full House and full Senate vote soon. It prevents the Department of Public Safety from retaining any data related to firearm purchases. The NRA is afraid that data analysis may find that guns are dangerous and the research may help justify better gun safety laws. 👎dislike
- LD 976, to receive a full House and full Senate vote soon. It classifies guns that have been altered by bump stocks as machine guns. This makes sense because they both are automatic weapons. 👍 like
- LD 1033, to receive a full House and full Senate vote soon. It allows hunting on Sundays with the permission of the land owner. Currently, Sunday is a day of peace and quiet as hunting is not allowed. 👎dislike
- LD 1052, to receive a full House and full Senate vote soon. It eliminates the Governor’s ability to keep communities safe. During and emergency, the Governor is prevented from placing restrictions on gun companies. The become exempt from safety rules that restrict all other businesses. 👎dislike

- LD 1179, hearing scheduled. It prevents any Maine government official from participating in a gun removal or buyback program. The end result would be to lose a way to get guns off the street. 👎dislike
- LD 1286, hearing scheduled. It eliminates background checks for those with a concealed weapons license. Non-criminals can later become criminals. Future background checks are needed to stop future criminals from getting guns. 👎dislike

A bill is active that allows killing and claiming a threat

- LD 1138, public hearing scheduled. This is a so called “stand-your-ground” bill. It allows the shooting of another person and then by claiming to be threatened, not be prosecuted. In Florida, this law allowed the killing of a Trevon Martin, an unarmed black man, because of the color of his skin. 👎dislike
A hearing is schedule for Monday, April 26 by the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee to discuss this bill. The NRA told their members, “Please act now! Contact members of the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee.”
