March 3, 2021

The group ignores gun safety and criminal background checks with this bill. The only background check is at time of purchase, not the time of the crime. 👎 dislike
  • HF 621, passed into law. It protects gun stores and manufactures from being sued. The NRA is afraid that these protections will go away under the Biden Administration. 👎 dislike

Both of these bills were signed into law on April 1. Once again, the NRA and the Republicans consider gun owner convenience more important than gun violence prevention.

Vague Constitutional Amendment pushed through legislature

January 29, 2021

  • SRJ1 passed the legislature. It is a Constitutional Amendment that states: “the right of people to keep and bear arms shall be subject to strict scrutiny.” 👎 Dislike

The Iowa legislature just passed a bill to amend the Constitution to add language making it a right of the people to keep and bear arms. The meaning puzzles the mind because it is vague. What does strict scrutiny mean? Can unlicensed terrorists bring guns into the State Capital? Can assault weapons be carried into shopping malls and kindergarten classes?

The bill passed the legislature two years in a row. Next year it goes on a ballot for the voters to finalize the amendment. Of course the NRA will advertise this as confirming a human right, just so they can sell more guns.
