The Alabama yearly legislative session ended this week. Along with that, a bill, sponsored by the NRA, died as well. The bill would have allowed gun owners to purchase lifetime permits. Their criminal record would never have to be checked again.

Alabama: Ignoring public safety, gun stores to remain open
Republican Governor Kay Ivey didn’t include gun stores in the businesses that must shut down during the pandemic emergency. She ignored public safety for two reasons:
- The purpose of closing businesses is to stop the virus spread. Every type of business she leaves open increases the spread of the virus.
- Gun groups try to frighten citizens into fears of public panic. The subtle message they use is, you need a gun to protect your family from those desperate for food. Now is the perfect time to frighten the public to buy more guns, but they need the gun business to churn away as normal to sell those guns.

Alabama: State Representative to vote soon on guns for life
The Alabama House of Representative is expected to vote soon on whether to give out lifetime firearm carry permits for life. Alabama is very near the top in gun deaths per 100,000 people. This will only increase if it passes.
NRA strategy
The NRA is fighting county sheriff on this bill because the sheriffs know it will make their jobs more dangerous. This is a political effort by the NRA and other pro-gun fanatical groups just to make gun ownership easier.

Alabama: House committee hearing on handing out lifetime permits
The Alabama House Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee just scheduled a hearing for tomorrow, Mar 11, on an unsafe NRA bill. The bill proposes handing out lifetime firearm carry permits. The effort is entirely aimed at making gun ownership easier.

Alabama: Unsafe lifetime gun carry permit progresses
Yesterday, March 5, the Senate Committee on Judiciary passed a bill to create a lifetime gun carry permit. A person can turn dangerous, but the license will still be good. The bill now moves to the full senate for a vote.
NRA strategy
The NRA failures throughout the country make a success important to them. They NRA alerted their users: “We must make our voices heard loud and clear on this bill to get it passed.” The bill makes Alabama even more unsafe, but the NRA told their members it gives them the “option of deciding which route is best suited for their individual self-defense needs.”

Alabama: Sheriffs need help opposing the NRA
Alabama consistently ranks in the top one or two states for the most gun deaths per person in the country. Instead of submitting gun safety legislation, Republican legislators desire to offer lifetime gun permits.
NRA strategy
Apparently, the NRA prizes lifetime gun permits. But the Sheriffs of Alabama counties oppose this legislation. So, the NRA alerted their members to call their Sheriff and ask for opposition to this bill. Gun control supporters need to support their Sheriff in their stand against this bill.

Alabama: Upcoming hearing on pro-gun fanatic’s bill
The Alabama Senate Committee on Judiciary has scheduled a hearing for February 26th on whether to allow gun licenses for life. Obtaining a gun license in Alabama, one of the most dangerous state to live in, is easy. Now, the NRA wants to make this easy to get license, good for life. No matter that the person turns dangerous.
The NRA asked all their Alabama members to contact the committee and urge them to support this bill. The reason: because it is something “citizens in other states enjoy.” Those advocating for gun violence prevention should counteract the power of pro-gun fanatics and make advocate themselves against this bill.

Alabama: Gun groups wants lifetime gun permits
A new bill is before the House Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee, as well as the Senate Judiciary Committee. HB 39/SB 47 would allow someone to request a concealed weapons permit for life. Currently, the license is valid for only five years.
Concealed weapons permits are easy to obtain in Alabama. That is why the state is always among the top ten states for gun deaths in the country. Yet Republican legislator’s want to eliminate the five-year renewal requirement. This is for the convenience of gun owners. Future criminals can then buy guns at gun shows with a valid license and no background check.
The NRA asked their members to contact committee members supporting this bill. A call to your own Senators and Representative for gun control would help oppose the pro-gun people.
