Tennessee: Updated – Hearing and Votes on two NRA bills Monday 04/29

Tipping point for the NRA

Mandatory prison sentencing and a new easily obtainable gun license have hearings this week. As usual, the NRA alerted their gun nut members to advocate for these bad gun bills. The first, a mandatory prison sentence for gun theft is bad because mandatory prison sentences have been shown to take any discretion away from judges and fill the prisons unnecessarily. The accused could have thought he was allowed to borrow a gun and then the owner accuses him of theft. But the Judge has not options. Besides, the bill leaves the owner completely off the hook for negligently leaving his gun available for theft.

The second bill would make gun access easier for criminals by creating an ease to get gun license.

The Bills

👎 Senate Bill 403 / House Bill 167 would mandate prison sentences for gun theft and place no obligation on the gun owner to keep their guns safe.
