Includes increased funding for jobs for youth at risk
The Massachusetts Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence set as their state budget priority this year increasing the funding of two programs: YouthWorks and SSYI (Safe and Successful Youth Initiative). Both programs work with young men between the ages of 17 and 24 through counseling and by helping them to find and maintain jobs. This age group is at the highest risk of perpetrating or becoming victims of gun violence.
The YouthWorks budget was increased to over $16 Million and SSYI to $10 million, both meeting the goals set at the beginning of the year. By responding to our alerts to call your state legislators urging them to vote for this funding, you made a difference. Thank you.
